On the morning of March 21st, after two hours of intense work, the installation of the bearing pivot for the rotation of Pier No. 3 on the Nanniwan Airport Bridge of the Yan’an Eastern Ring Expressway was successfully completed. This has laid a solid foundation for the subsequent “grand rotation” of the bridge and the full connection of the Yan’an Eastern Ring Expressway.

The rotation project of Pier No. 3 on the Nanniwan Airport Bridge crosses over the Baxi Railway and the under-construction Western Extension of the High-Speed Railway, posing significant construction challenges. The substructure of the rotational pier adopts a box-type hollow pier design, ensuring structural stability and safety. The superstructure utilizes an advanced three-way prestressing system, with a total deck width of 33.6 meters, capable of meeting the ever-increasing traffic demands. Notably, the rotation weight of this bridge reaches an impressive 24,500 tons, making it one of the highest-altitude and largest-tonnage rotational bridge projects in the world currently.

The construction technique for the bridge rotation system is extremely complex and technically challenging, rendering it one of the most critical and demanding projects of the Yan’an Eastern Ring Expressway. Throughout the construction process, the project team meticulously organized and implemented scientific construction methods, adopting a series of optimization measures, such as developing detailed construction plans, utilizing BIM technology for modeling and simulation analysis, and establishing risk warning mechanisms, ensuring the safety and quality of the construction work.
