On March 24th, the main navigation span of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge was successfully closed, marking that the bridge has entered the final sprint stage of closing the main navigation span.

The CT-A6 main navigation bridge of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge has a total of 45 large segments. So far, the installation of 40 large segments has been completed. Since the large steel beam segments of the main navigation bridge started being transported and installed in February 2023, the builders have overcome difficulties such as tight production schedules, heavy ship traffic on the Yangtze River, and short welding cycles. They have formulated detailed production plans and construction schemes, worked overtime to catch up on the schedule, and completed all production tasks with quality and quantity assured.

The Changtai Yangtze River Bridge is a heavyweight bridge with two “world firsts” and four “world premieres.” The participating units have built a new “five lines and one system” steel bridge intelligent manufacturing model centered on an intelligent plate material cutting and production line, an intelligent plate unit welding production line, an intelligent steel truss component manufacturing production line, an intelligent final assembly production line, an intelligent coating production line, and a workshop manufacturing execution intelligent control system. This comprehensively enhances the automation, digitization, networking, and intelligent manufacturing level of steel truss manufacturing, promoting the informatization and intellectualization of bridge manufacturing in China and comprehensively promoting the transformation and upgrading of the steel truss manufacturing industry.

Among them, for the first time in China, a steel truss main chord member diaphragm welding robot was introduced, achieving intelligent diaphragm welding. Additionally, an automatic welding system for the main weld of truss members with a sensor-based weld seam tracking system was adopted, realizing double-wire submerged arc welding. For the first time in the plate unit manufacturing process, destructive testing of plate units was introduced, providing a direct verification of the welding quality of plate units and reliable assurance for improving the fatigue performance and durability of plate units.
