At 8 am on March 16th, accompanied by the roar of machinery, the concrete pouring of the pier cap for the south main tower of the cross-river cable-stayed bridge for the Chongqing Rail Transit Line from Tiaoyuan to Jiangjin (hereinafter referred to as the “Jiangtiao Line”) (Shengquansi to Dingshan Section) commenced.

Since the construction of the Jiangtiao Line (Shengquansi to Dingshan Section) began on December 28, 2022, the elevated bridge, tunnel projects, cross-river cable-stayed bridge for rail transit, and station projects have all started construction, creating a strong atmosphere of active construction at multiple locations. Currently, all pile foundations for the elevated bridge on the north bank have been completed, and the construction of the substructure is being carried out intensively. The Shengquan Tunnel has completed 41% of the project work. The maintenance structure construction for the south anchor block is nearing completion, and the next step will be the excavation of the foundation pit. The diaphragm wall piles for the Jijiang Station have completed 71% of the project work.
The pier cap being poured for the south main tower of the cross-river bridge is 27 meters long, 15.8 meters wide, and 5 meters high. It requires 152 tons of reinforcing steel and has a designed concrete volume of 2,133 cubic meters, which will be completed in two pours. The first pour will be 3 meters high, with a concrete volume of 1,280 cubic meters.
It is understood that this concrete pouring marks the entry of the cross-river bridge into the substructure construction phase, achieving a ‘water-out’ structure before the arrival of the Yangtze River flood peak, thereby securing a head start for the tower column construction.
