Požega, Croatia – A significant infrastructure project in Croatia, the Požega-Godinjak expressway, has taken a major step forward with the recent signing of a construction contract. The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), known for its work on the Pelješac Bridge, has been awarded the contract valued at approximately €160 million (excluding VAT) to build the nearly 15-kilometer-long expressway.

This vital transport link is designed to connect the city of Požega and the surrounding Požega-Slavonia County with the A3 motorway, a key arterial route in Croatia. The project has been long-awaited and is seen as crucial for the economic development and improved connectivity of the region, which is currently one of the few county seats without a direct link to the national highway network.
The planned expressway, stretching approximately 14.75 kilometers, will run from Brestovac Požeški to the Godinjak interchange on the A3. A significant feature of the project will be the construction of the Bablja Gora tunnel. The overall construction is expected to be completed within approximately four years.
The contract signing ceremony, which took place in early May 2025, was attended by Croatian government officials and representatives from Croatian Roads (Hrvatske ceste), the state-owned company responsible for managing state roads, and CRBC. Officials emphasized the project’s strategic importance for regional development, expecting it to reduce travel times, improve traffic safety, and stimulate economic activity in Požega-Slavonia County.
The selection of CRBC follows their successful completion of the Pelješac Bridge, a project lauded for its engineering and timely execution. The Požega-Godinjak expressway is now set to become another major infrastructure undertaking for the company in Croatia.
Local news outlets have extensively reported on this development, highlighting it as a historic moment for the region. The project is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion on existing state roads and provide a modern, efficient connection to the rest of Croatia and Europe.
